Life Path Number Calculation Method

i] Take your date of birth, and separately reduce each; your MONTH, DAY, and YEAR to a single digit value.

Using February 27, 1976 as an example ...

February = 2
27 = 9
1976 = 23 = 5

ii] Add these 3 separate numbers to get your Life path number

2 + 9 + 5 = 16

iii] Sometimes you will need to reduce the number once again to get your final single digit base value

1 + 6 = 7

In such cases your Life Path Number is often written as 16/7 to indicate the higher double digit vibration from which your Life Path Number 7 was derived from.

Note: Any time you encounter a Master Number (11, 22, or 33) in your calculation, DO NOT reduce it any further.

Master Numbers

Master Numbers 11, 22, and 33 are not to be reduced anytime they are found within the calculation, but are still written as 11/2, 22/4, and 33/6, just like any other Life Path Number would be to indicate both the single digit base number, as well as the double digit vibration from which that base number was derived from ... 16/7 for example 🙂

You will find that there are a few variations on how some people, and websites, calculate your Life Path Number. Most of the time, the results will be the same, however, when we come to the point of determining the double digit vibration for your Life Path Number, there are differences depending on the method of calculation used. This often results in questioning not only whether or not you might have a Master Number, but also several other numbers within your Numerology Chart, such as whether or not your Life Path also carries Karmic Debt .

Example Calculation

Date of Birth = July 29, 1964 = 7/29/1964

[i] Pythagorean or 3 Cycle Method
Month = 7
Day = 29 = 11
Year = 1964 = 20 = 2

7 + 11 + 2 = 20/2

[ii] Straight Accross Addition
7 + 2 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 4 = 38 = 11/2

[iii] Other Methods
7 + 29 + 1964 = 2000 = 2
The numbers representing your Month, Day, and Year of birth are used to calculate your Pinnacles, Challenges, and are ultimately responsible for each of your 3 Cycles. The Pythagorean Method relies on the idea that your Life Path is based on these cycles, and so it is sometimes called the 3 Cycle Method. It is these Cycles that are added together to form your Full Life Cycle … or your LIFE PATH.

Furthermore the Pythagorean Method is stricter and more selective in determining whether or not someone falls into the category of a Master Number, giving us a more realistic and even distribution of Master Numbers regardless of decades or centuries, the other methods do not.
For those who feel that the Pythagorean Method is somehow incorrect ... and this would include mostly those for whom this method does not produce a Master Number, keep in mind that most professional numerologists use this method exclusively, and see the other methods as being incorrect. • Hi Marion,

      02 = 2
      17 = 8
      1971 = 18 = 9
      Your Lifepath = 2 + 8 + 9 = 19 = 10 = 1

  4. My birthday doesn't provide a double digit number what do I do then??

    10/03/2000

    What is my top number?

    • Hi Danielle, apologies for the late reply. Not everyone will have their date of birth reduced to a double digit number first. Like in your case ...

      10 = 1
      03 = 3
      2000 = 2

      Your life path = 1 + 3 + 2 = 6 ... you can think of your life path as a solid six : )

    • Hi Denise, we blacked out your full name here : ) Regarding your birthdate ...
      June = 6
      18 = 9
      1980 = 18 = 9
      Your life path number = 6 + 9 + 9 = 24/6

  6. “To calculate your Life Path we first reduce your Day, Month, and Year separately to single digit values, and then we add the 3 numbers together.”
    This calculator made no sense to me- so maybe I’m not understanding. 11/26/1972 =
    1 + 1 = 2, 2 + 6 = 8,
    1+9+7+2=19 … 1+9=10 = 1+0=1
    So, according to your instructions 2+8+1=11, but the calculator says 20/2.

    • Hi Brandi, you have it correctly except every time you encounter a master number within the calculation itself, it is not reduced. In your case that would result in 11 + 8 + 1 = 20/2 instead of 11/2.

  7. What does it mean if my life path number sum across is 33 but the Pythagorean shows different?

    Reply
    • Hi Yasmin, if you don’t get 33 using the Pythagorean method, that means your life path number is not a master number : ) In all honestly, don't sweat it if your number is not a Master Number. Either way you calculate your Life Path, your base single digit number is a 6. People tend to focus more on Master numbers, but in reality it is simply the double digit higher vibration of the number 6 ... just like 15/6, 24/6, 42/6 or 51/6 … they each add a slightly different flavor to the Number 6, but usually only Master numbers or Karmic debt numbers are discussed in any greater detail. If interested, there are short descriptions of each of these double digit vibrations at the following site - https://numerologyworx.com/numerology-number-6/

  9. If the Pythagorean Method is used by most professional numerologists then how can a master number of 33 ever be achieved?
    This method of calculation (no matter what date you use) cannot achieve this number yet most professional numerologist recognise 33 as a master number.
    Look forward to any clarification on this.

    • Hi Aiden, you forgot that master numbers 11, 22 or 33 are not reduced when encountered within the calculation. It is the straight across simple method that is very difficult to obtain a master number after the year 1999 ... in the 2000s. You can play around with our calculator at the top of the page for different dates as it does show you the calculation method as well, but also check out - https://numerologyworx.com/life-path-number-statistics/ to see how different date ranges will give you different results for master numbers. Cheers : )
